10:00 am
nicked from magister-cain You're packing your bag for that magical desert island that happens to have electricity, a TV, and a DVD player—what five DVDs do you take with you?

This is difficult as my favourite films change daily by my moods and how tired I am of watching the previous favourite

1. The Wind in the Willows boxset. I will probably never tire of them. I have a vast collection of video episodes and I have always loved them. My fifth birthday party was spent at Cosgrove Hall's Animation World, prior to its closure, gazing adoringly at the sets used for the claymations.

2. Bedknobs and Broomsticks. It's one of my favourite Disney films, I love the songs, and it is a film that is, suprisingly, better than the book in my opinion.

3. Elizabeth because Joseph Fiennes and Geoffrey Rush on the same screen is pretty much unbeatable in terms of attractiveness.

4. Velvet Goldmine it has the virtue of being glitsy, ostentatious and highly intelligently intertextual. It draws not just from Wilde but from filmic influences such as Citizen Kane and yet is in no way as mind-numbingly boring as the latter. I don't know why I don't watch it more often and imagine being on a desert island would perhaps prompt me to return my attentions to it.

5. Muppet Christmas Carol/Muppet Treasure Island (can't decide which). If I'm looking for films that I cannot let them go by unwatched, despite owning them. These two Muppet films definitely have to be up there. The latter has the virtue of also having Tim Curry in there, but the former has its own virtues of magnificent songs and intertexual references.

Have just heard from my instructor that my lesson is cancelled today. This is good as it means I will be able to eat a proper meal before going to Lancs tonight. I should probably use my additional free time to get on with some work of some sort...I've been meaning to scrub down the wooden boards in the bathroom... but in all likelihood it'll mean an additional hour or two reading trash and daydreaming ;).
