08:35 pm - Bookish Babbles, Barnets and Birthdays
Mass today was utterly hectic for me. I was meant to be simply chaperoning the Altar girls whilst Mum was doing liturgy. Instead, before Mass began I realised neither the pianist nor the organist was here, and as Busy Mary is currently with her family in New Zealand I thought 'Oh eck' and was compelled to start flipping through the hymn book trying to find relavent-yet-singable hymns. Then I had to hang on, champing at the bit, until Fr Matthew wandered in (LATE AS USUAL)to give me the okay. He did not offer to put the numbers up himself, neither did any of the Revoltingly Tall Persons in the benches, witnessing me jumping on tip-toe to reach the wooden board. (Mum is, incidentally fuming about this because she told one of the Regulars to go help me/chaperone the altar girls while I was running round like a headless chicken). Anyway this kind of mad frenzy regarding the hymns continued throughout Mass because if I wasn't the one to start CC would, and she NEVER STARTS ON THE RIGHT NOTE/KEY and if she starts it takes me two verses or so to haul myself up to the right register.

Anyway so it was all a bit frazzled.

Auntie Maura stopped by for dinner, which was nice (dinner was of course, delicious: meat pie, mashed potatoes, carrots 'n' turnips and sprouts, then apple pie and custard for afters) and cut my hair, which desperately needed doing.

I finished reading Stephen Fry's Making History today too. potential spoiler cut )

Summarily: Better than The Liar but not as good as The Hippopotamus

Now I only have to read my other library book before Wednesday and I'll be set. It looks promising so far, the only thing is going to be finding the time.

Adam has decreed that he wishes his 11th Birthday to be a buffet party at Nanny's. Considering Auntie Nicola isn't really well enough (and Nanny's and my cooking is better) we have aquiesced. BUT as it really is too much work to expect Nanny to do on her own, I have volunteered on food making so my week will be filled with pastry and cake mixes and mince meat and buying cooking margerine and such, on top of my usual commitments. And also on Thursday a trip to Wesbrook to get the requested picture put on the requested cake.

I will enjoy the chance to bake. It's just trying to organise it around Life. Probably looking at making the pastry on Wednesday before/after the Dole (I'd prefer to do this Tuesday but I won't have time...not unless some sort of disaster knocks off one of my previous engagements) and then Thursday night making pastry-items, so Friday may be totally devoted to cakes.
Current Mood: pondersome
