January 22nd, 2009
11:43 am Today is a day of collapsing, after the hectic-ness of yesterday. Various things going on, the biggest of which was two driving lessons (one was free-my instructor was being tested by the DSA equivalent of OFSTED- she got Top Marks, which is very pleasing because it proves I'm being taught by a top-notch lady!) Now owing to my joint trouble (or, in medical terms, as my doctor put it: "Well...it's not arthritis! Here have some more painkillers!") a standard two hour lesson is enough to cripple me for several hours, painkillers or no. The stress of keeping my feet and ankles not-twitching can be rather painful and generally after such a lesson I'm good for nothing until the drugs kick in a bit and my legs feel less like Evil. So, two such lessons in one day was rather pushing myself, hence my unceremonious collapse (with interlude of forcing self to feet to cook dinner)and the fact that it currently sounds like I have castanets attached to my limbs whenever I move.
This makes me grumpy. And dozy.
I was reading a really interesting fic. It was even het (!) but I wasn't reading it so much for the romance (which was, thankfully, tactfully vague and easy to skip over) it was a SS/LE time-travel kind of thing as was really fascinatingly done. I enjoyed it, even if there were the occasional horrendous textual errors. Really, it was great. It was also huge (121 chapters) which makes me happy. But then I made the mistake of going to the author's page. I often do this because I reckon if I read a fic I like by an author, chances are their 'favourite stories' may contain other groovy fics. Author's page: "I hate in fic: SLASH! Especially Snape being gay! SNAPE IS NOT GAY!"
...*headdesk* I'm fine with people not seeing a character's sexuality the same as others. Personally I tend to be able to read most characters either gay, bi, straight or other without issue unless I'm reading it specifically for the pairing. If I'm reading solely for the plot (as in, this author's fic) then I'm not too bothered. I might think it a little limiting for a person to be unable to accept any view of the character but their own, but really that's their own affair.
There was no cause for those capslocks, though. That was bloody irritating. If I/anyone else wants to write Snape as queer then queer he may be. This is something I have, happily, not come accross in other fandoms so much. Apart from X Men but that's such a diverse and badly organised fandom I don't think it counts. You don't get many people in my neck of the woods shouting "House is NOT GAY." Although probably that's just because I'm not looking in those kinds of places.
</nonsensical>
Am going away tomorrow, unless lycoris kills me dead for failing to find my tape of Prince of Egypt, I should be back on the web Saturday night or Sunday afternoon. Wheee.
