03:50 pm - Sunday News and Blues
Usual Sunday. We were lucky enough to get Fr Michael; my glee was unbounded. The two readings before the Gospel were the story of Samuel being called by God and thinking it was Eli (which I always liked), and a diatribe from St Paul about THE EVILS OF FORNICATION, which made me acutely embarrassed and HUGELY relieved I wasn't reading! So Fr Michael goes to give his homily and he said: "I couldn't decide whether to do a homily about answering God's call, or fornication but as St Paul says we should leave fornication well alone, then that's what I'll do" Cue: Relieved Laughter. And of course the homily he went to do was brilliant. He has a knack of addressing people and making them feel like they truly understand what he's saying, without feeling like he's dumbing-down or talking down to us. It's one of the reasons I predict him to be getting to be a Monsigneur, because it reminds me of Fleety (and also somewhat of Fr Peter).

Have just found out that my Auntie Nicola has been in a road accident she rides to and from Adam's school with him every day and, one assumes on the way back after dropping him off, she was hit by a car. She's all right..in that she's at home and nothing's broken but she's badly bruised and it just really confirms my fear about cycling. Environmentally friendly perhaps but cars are BIGGER and MEANER and if you hit one and you're on a bike then you are going to be the one hurting, not the car.

Tony Hart has died aged 83 *sob*. Adieu, Tony, you made Nanny and me so happy. We used to always watch him after school.

More randomly:
I found a really interesting interview about Radio 4 and talking about regional accents and how they're far more prevalent on Five Live (this is undoubtedly true) and ...well I found it interesting.

also

The guardian has interviewed the poet Benjamin Zephaniah which is a rather engrossing read.

In a more disturbing turn, Auntie Irene has told me that she recieved a link from Auntie Maura which was "something on the internet" written by me "with pictures" of them and the dogs. This can only mean a page of this blog!
My reactions are somewhat bewildered. On the one hand I'm filled with equal measures horror and embarrasment, akin to having them read my diary or something because, dammit, this is kind of my corner of the internet and I've mostly kept it seperate from RL in a sense. It is my haven of Things One Does Not Discuss With The Family (or, that the Family wouldn't care about, like fandom)and the idea of my relatives reading it....well, it's not hugely comoforting, especially not the kind of self-destructive tripe I wrote when I was 16. On the other hand, I have always, purposely, let my blog be open. I do not use it exactly like a diary- I edit things freely as I like. I'm not always candid, in the way I might be in a paper-diary. Because of this, because my blog isn't made to be a 'diary' filled with secrets or information only for a select few to recieve, is why my blog isn't flocked. I want readers, I want to share interesting articles and stories and my fics with people. If I was writing for myself, then my blog wouldn't be public. So really do I have any right (or need) to freak out that my family members might read some of my entries?

Probably they'd get bored and have no interest in my rabbitings anyway. That's exactly what Auntie Irene's comment was: "This child can't half WAFFLE."

Still. Interesting mental puzzle.
